Tourism on the rebound

ZIMBABWE Tourism Authority (ZTA) says the tourism sector has shown signs of recovery by recording an increase in both domestic and international visitors.

In an interview with H-Metro, ZTA head of corporate affairs, Godfrey Koti, said the tourism industry was negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused stringent travel restrictions.

“Destination Zimbabwe has seen a significant increase in business with occupancy rates raising significantly in 2022.

“A massive 96 percent increase in domestic entries into national parks was recorded in 2022 and in addition, overseas arrivals also went up by 256 percent compared to the previous year.”

Koti also said the festive season was good in all regions across the country.

“All regions were well booked throughout the country. We had an average of 86 percent occupancy rate and are looking for a better 2023.

“We hope to host and bid for more international conferences, such as the International Conference on Aids and STIs in Africa (ICASA),” said Koti.
