TP Mazembe in final

TP Mazembe held FUS Rabat to a goalless draw in the teams’ Caf Confederation Cup semi-final, second-leg clash in Morocco on Saturday night. The result at the Stade de FUS in Rabat secured a 1-0 aggregate triumph for Mazembe, who advance into the final and remain on course to defend their continental crown.

The first half presented few attacking opportunities at either end, with TP Mazembe happy to sit back, absorb whatever the hosts could throw at them, and look to hit on the counter.

Rabat were able to enjoy the majority of ball possession, but it was a classic case of sterile domination, with the Ravens holding their opponents at arm’s length.

FUS started strongly in the second half and created a good chance for Brahim El Bahraoui, but the striker wasn’t able to convert and bring the teams level on aggregate.

Mazembe gradually began to come out of their shell as the game wore on, with substitute Meshak Elia a particular threat after coming off the bench to replace captain Rainford Kalaba.

Yet neither side was able to work an opening in the 90 minutes, allowing Mazembe to see out a 0-0 draw and secure their place in the final. — AFP.
