TRAGEDY has once again struck the FC Platinum family, after a supporters’ bus was involved in a fatal road accident while returning from the club’s away match against GreenFuel in Chisumbanje.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday, claimed one life and left several others injured following a head-on collision between the supporters’ bus and another vehicle.
In a statement posted on their official social media pages, FC Platinum confirmed the heartbreaking news.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce a tragic accident involving one of our supporters’ buses on July 26, 2025, while returning from a match in Chisumbanje. Unfortunately, the bus was involved in a collision with another vehicle, resulting in a loss of life. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and all affected by this devastating incident.”
The Zvishavane-based club is still reeling from the loss of star midfielder Brian Banda, who died in the early hours of June 29 in a horrific car crash near the Fred Mine turn-off. Banda was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla Bubble belonging to Proton Bakeries. The accident occurred when the driver attempted a dangerous overtake at a blind spot, lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Banda and another passenger died on the spot.
Just two weeks after Banda’s death, another FC Platinum midfielder, Oscar Bhebhe, was involved in a road accident that left him nursing a broken hand.
Tragically, this is not the first time FC Platinum has been hit by road carnage. In 2016, then-players Charles Sibanda and Winston Mhango survived a serious car crash on their way to Bulawayo from Zvishavane. The accident, caused by an attempt to avoid a stray cow, resulted in a head-on collision that killed Mimosa employee Welly Chiyangwa.
