A 52-YEAR-OLD man from Greenside low-density suburb was found dead at Munowenyu Business Centre in Sakubva last Wednesday, in what police suspect to be a case of alcohol intoxication.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, identified the deceased as Alfred Dzikiti.
He said Dzikiti had left home intending to visit his grandmother’s tenant in Mundembe, Sakubva, but was later seen consuming cane spirit—one of the potent brands of alcohol commonly referred to in street lingo as kozodo or mutoriro.
“Dzikiti reportedly became heavily intoxicated and was later seen lying in a trench,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
At around midday, ZRP Sakubva received a report from 89-year-old Gariremwo Masimira of Mazhambe, who had discovered the lifeless body at Munowenyu Business Centre.
Police attended the scene and noted struggle marks on the back of the deceased’s body.
The body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said investigations are ongoing.
He also issued a warning to the public against excessive alcohol consumption, particularly unregistered brews, which pose serious health risks.
