A stranded Jotsholo man took advantage of a Good Samaritanas kindness and raped his teenage daughter, infecting her with a sexually transmitted infection (STI), after he had been offered overnight accommodation.

Elias Dube betrayed the trust bestowed on him and turned the nine-year-old girl into his sex slave for a night.

The court heard that Dube arrived at Phikisani Ncubeas homestead in Mbondo village at around 9 pm on 5 January and asked for a place to sleep.

Ncube obliged and offered Dube a place to lay his head for the night.

Prosecutor Sanders Sibanda said Dube shared the same bedroom hut with the victim and her five-year-old brother.

The victim slept on the bed while Dube slept on the floor with her brother.

At around 11pm Dube allegedly woke up and went to the victim and caressed her while she was deep in sleep. The court heard that he then tore the undergarments of the minor with an okapi knife before raping her.

In a bid to prevent the discovery of his crime he threatened to stab the victim if ever she told anyone of the ordeal.

Dube then woke up at the break of dawn and fled.

The victim and his brother woke up in the morning and went straight to their father to whom she relayed details of her ordeal.

Phikisani made a report at Lupane police station. A manhunt was launched leading to Dubeas arrest. The victim was taken to Lupane District Hospital where she was diagnosed of a sexually transmitted infection.

Sibanda said a medical report could be produced in court as an exhibit.

Dube appeared before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku facing a rape charge.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to 23 February for routine remand.
