THREE men from Stoneridge Park in Waterfalls have each been sentenced to an effective 14 months in prison for assaulting court officials who were carrying out evictions.

Thulani Nyamhunga, Shelly Saunyama and Kudakwashe Mususa were convicted by Magistrate Ms Elizabeth Chivangu on 10 counts of resisting arrest from a peace officer.

Each was initially sentenced to 20 months imprisonment, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving an effective 14-month jail term.

The complainants are employees of the Judicial Service Commission, attached to the High Court of Zimbabwe.

Some of them include Farai Marwa, Nyasha Madamombe, Charles Chikosa, Jeteri Rugube, and Marcus Name, among others.

Prosecutor Ms Blessing Chibowere told the court that on October 9, 2025, at around 10.30am, the complainants were deployed at Stoneridge Park conducting evictions in terms of a court                                                                                                       order.

The court heard that the accused persons arrived at the scene in a group, using a white Toyota Wish and a Honda Fit, whose registration numbers were not recorded.

Acting together with accomplices still at large, the trio allegedly confronted the officials and violently resisted the eviction process.

They assaulted the complainants using wooden planks and tree branches, demanding that they leave the premises, while claiming ownership of the properties.

They also allegedly forced the officials to return property that had already been removed during the evictions.

Several of the complainants sustained injuries and later filed police reports, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
