ZIMBABWEAN professional golfer, Ben Follet-Smith, will be hoping to carry the form he showed, during the VOG Sishen Pro-Am, into the main event, at Sishen Golf Club, in South Africa.

He started with an impressive 67, and then followed it up with an even better 65, to finish second, in the practice rounds.

The main tournament tees off this morning.

Follet-Smith is a former Mississippi State University in the United States.

He missed the cut, at last week’s SunBet Challenge, hosted by Time Square Casino, at Wingate Park Country Club.

He will be joined by fellow countrymen, the Mandhu brothers — Mohammad and Kayyam — today. The 16th season of the Sunshine Tour’s Vodacom Origins of Golf series tees off , with a number of new incentives, for the rising young professionals, of the Sunshine Tour.

Each tournament boasts increased prize money of R1 million, a significant increase from the R800 000 per tournament, last year.

With just under R70 000, separating JC Ritchie in first place on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit and Toto Thimba in third, consistent success in the Vodacom Origins of Golf events could result in some significant changes on the Order of Merit. The final event on this year’s series will also serve as the qualifying tournament, for December’s 1 million euro AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
