Trio up for forgery

THREE suspected fraudsters from Chikanga high-density suburb have been dragged before the courts on allegations of forging an affidavit which they later presented to court.Doreen Manzou (37), Luke Muganhu (39) and James Muzama (62) appeared before Mutare magistrate Mrs Annie Ndiraya. They pleaded not guilty.

It was the state’s case led by public prosecutor, Mr Sheppard Chawarika that the trio, on an unknown date between 2006 and 12 November 2013, tried to defraud Ronald Molefe (64) by forging an affidavit document.

“Manzou and Muganhu wrote on their forged affidavit that they had given Molefa the sum of $8 500 to buy a stand in Chikanga Phase 2 while Muzama was their witness. They went on to forge the complainant’s signature purporting that he had acknowledged receipting the said amount. The forged document can be produced in court as exhibit. On the 12th of November Manzou proceeded with the forged document to the clerk of court at the Mutare Magistrates’ Courts claiming that Molefa owed them $8 500 which they had given him to buy his residential stand. At the same time the accused went on to file the matter at the Nyanga Magistrates’ Courts under case number 07/13 and judgment was passed in favour of the accused”.

Molefa was ordered to pay a total $9 407 including the costs of execution. However Molefa did not pay the money.

The matter goes for trial on June 3, 2015.
