adminTHE Tsikada community and its environs will now receive high quality antenatal and health care without traveling long distances, as a result of a $20 000 clinic that was opened last week.The Tsikada Clinic project, which was initially spearheaded by former Zanu-PF Ward 33 Councillor Cde James Munetsi in 2012 — was completed with additional funding from the Makoni Rural District Council.
The clinic, which was commissioned last Friday, has facilities that include maternity or delivery ward, admission ward, drug room and nursing rooms.
It has some incinerators for the safe destruction of limbs.
The completion of the rural health facility will see a number of residents benefiting from maternal, child health care needs, which should be prioritised to salvage the current rate of maternal mortality, which is retrogressive to the attainment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5.
To achieve these goals, antenatal care should be made a priority to ensure all pregnant mothers receive quality health care within short distances.
There are plans to construct a mother’s waiting room to cater for those from distant places.
Member of House of Assembly for Makoni South, Cde Francis Muchenje, said the construction of the clinic was commendable and complements Government’s efforts to provide wider coverage of maternal and child health care.
Makoni RDC chairperson, Cde David Guy Mutasa, said the facility would meet the needs of those in Ward 36 and its neighbouring community.
“We initiated this project with the aim of meeting the needs of residents who travel long distances to Chinhenga and Nyanga or Rusape General Hospitals to receive treatment. The completion of this project has come as a huge relief to the residents of this area, and we are looking forward to perfecting the road network to make this health facility more accessible,” said Cde Mutasa.
Provincial Health Services Administrator, Mr Joe Charangwa, commended the stakeholders in Makoni for working together.
Mr Charangwa said was ecstatic about the new facility and urged villagers to make use of the opportunity provided to them with the official opening of the clinic.
“This just goes to show what happens when we come together and make a difference in the lives of people. We are happy as Government because this facility will cater for everyone, but more importantly pregnant women,” said Mr Charangwa.
