TWIST TO CITY CRASH AS TRUCK DRIVER GETS BLAME FOR ACCIDENT

THERE has been a twist to the accident in Harare’s Central Business District yesterday morning which left 14 people injured.

The passengers were rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital. Initially, some passengers and witnesses blamed the kombi driver and accused him of ignoring the red traffic light for the crash with a truck.

However, it has since emerged that the City of Harare truck driver was responsible for the accident as he ignored the red traffic light.

Last Mayora, 32, is said to have failed to give way to Tichafara Machisa, 28, a kombi driver who was driving along Robert Mugabe Road.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said Mayora, an employee of City of Harare, is yet to provide his driver’s licence.

“Police are investigating a road traffic accident involving a truck and a Nissan Caravan where 14 passengers were injured.

“The accident took place at the corner Sam Nujoma Street and Robert Mugabe Road.

“The two vehicles were taken to VID for examination,” said Insp Chakanza.

Pedestrians who attended the scene were quick to blame the kombi driver, whom they accused of trying to beat the traffic light to evade arrest.
