THERE has been a twist to the tragedy at a house in Kuwadzana Extension, which claimed the lives of two children, and left their mother, and two other siblings, battling for their life in hospital.
Initial reports had claimed that Clara Muronda laced food with poison, which led to the death of two of her children while the other two were rushed to hospital.
Clara is also in hospital where she is receiving treatment together with her two children.
Sources told H-Metro yesterday that Clara and her two children were responding to treatment.
They said records have also shown that her two children Atidaishe, 10, and Atipashe, 8, died due to accidental carbon monoxide poison.
The family suffocated when Clara left a pot of rice on an LP gas stove.
The pot was burnt and smoke engulfed the room.
The tragic incident happened at about 11am.
Clara and the four children were reported to have been affected by the smoke and her two children succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Her family dismissed initial reports that Clara could have laced the rice with a yet to be identified substance.
“We are grieving and mourning,” said one of the family members.
“Clara is yet to recover from receiving treatment and she is yet to tell us how the family ended up sleeping at around 11am while the gas stove was on.
“She is the best person to answer and the post-mortem results will also show us what really happened.”
