Two maids up for stealing US$26 000 from employer

TWO Mutare housemaids have been sentenced to 36 months in prison for stealing US$26 000 from their employer.

The two Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda (32) of Chikanga and Ashley Munyaradzi Matika (20) of Dangamvura, Mutare appeared

before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court facing theft charges.

Six months of their sentence were suspended while 12 months were suspended on condition of restitution. The remainder was

suspended on condition that each of them perform six hours of community service.

On July 11, 2024, the two who were all employed as housemaids stole a cash box containing US$26 000 from their employer’s

bedroom and shared the money.

The complainant discovered the offence the following day and made a report to the police. Police investigations led to the arrest

of the two and the recovery of the cash box and US$7 800.
