Two up for stealing donkeys

TWO Chisumbanje men were recently arrested for stealing their neighbours’ five donkeys.Wilson Ziti Mazino (39) and Panganai Mlambo (31) of Mahachi Village under Chief Musikavanhu’s area pleaded guilty to contravening  Section 114 (2) (a) of the Criminal Law (codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:13(stock theft) on Monday.

Chipinge magistrate, Mr Vuso Gapara presided over the matter and remanded the two in custody to yesterday (Thursday) for sentencing.

Prosecuting, Mrs Edith Phiri, said on November 30, at around 7am, the complainants, Shandai Dhuvhu and Tawanda Mayanga of the same village released their five donkeys to Mabhiza grazing lands and left them unattended.

“On the same date in the afternoon, the complainants checked for their donkeys, but failed to locate them.

“The two accused persons connived and stole the five donkeys from the grazing lands. They harnessed them on a scotch-cart and drove them to Chibuwe area where they sold them to Noel Sibambe,” she said.

Mrs Phiri said on December 1, a police report was made and the following day the complainants were advised by the police that their donkeys were recovered in Chibuwe area.

“Police made follow-ups and the accused persons were arrested,”said Mrs Phiri.
