UCCZ returns Mt Selinda vehicle

Freedom Mutanda Post Correspondent—

THE D4D Toyota Hilux truck which had caused so much friction between United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe and Mount Selinda High School authorities was finally returned to the school last week.‘’I can confirm that the vehicle is back at Mt Selinda High School. However, we took the truck to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education authorities In Chipinge who officially handed it over to the headmaster,” said the church’s education secretary, a Mr Mugobo.

He added: “While we felt we could not continue to be at opposing lanes with our development partners and we gave in to the directive, we feel that the current SDC ought to reciprocate our gesture and respect the church as a responsible authority.

“Having said that, the administration has to remember that mutual respect will be a boon to the standards that we want set at the institution.’’

Contacted for a comment, Mt Selinda headmaster, Mr Watson Bundwa, confirmed that the vehicle was back at the school.

‘’It was delivered at about 5.30pm last Friday when all teachers had knocked for the day. A huge number of students came to view the vehicle. They were understandably happy,’’ he said.

Parents interviewed were relieved that the tug of war between the two sides had finally been resolved.

‘’We solemnly hope that we have come to the end of this drama. However, the two sides must put aside their differences and work hand in hand for the betterment of the school. Infrastructural development must extend to the boys’ and girls’ dormitories and not the administration block only.

“The water system has to be upgraded. At the end of the day, if the parents, responsible authority and administration work in unison, the landscape of the school will shine brighter than what it is doing now. We all love Mt Selinda High School. Deeds must accompany words,’’ said a parent who wanted to remain anonymous.

Mr Ashirai Mtirikwi Mawere, the SDC secretary, had a reconciliatory tone as he said it was incumbent upon all stakeholders to pull in the same direction and let bygones be bygones.

‘’We need to engage as SDC and RA in order to develop our school,’’ he said.
