THE Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing has appointed Urban Development Cooperation as the new Gimboki South Housing Scheme project manager.
Speaking at a meeting where the UDCORP executives were being introduced to the Gimboki Housing Scheme stakeholders last week, UDCORP chief executive officer, Mr Bright Mudzvova, said they were ready to set up offices in Mutare.
“Our role in terms of housing provision is to deliver complete, fully serviced stands for the people of Mutare,” he said.
He also assured stakeholders that they had nothing to worry about in terms of misappropriation of funds since UDCORP had the expertise in terms of auditing.
“We assure you that there will be thorough audits in terms of financial projects because auditing is one area of expertise in the UDCORP team,” he said.
He said the co-operation’s mandate was not to interfere with the running of any co-operatives, but to see that Gimboki South residents were provided with fully serviced and sanitised accommodation.
“We really need to clear the misconceptions that have and will rise in some people’s minds that our coming here means the banning of certain cooperatives.
“UDCORP will not interfere with the running of any cooperatives,” he said.
Adding on that, Manicaland Provincial Administrator, Mr Fungai Mbetsa, said their role as a ministry in housing delivery was providing accommodation and not administering funds.
Said Mr Mbetsa: “Our role is providing accommodation and not administering funds which is exactly why the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing is discouraging co-operatives.”
Mayor of Mutare, Councillor Tatenda Nhamarare, apologised to all those duped by some unscrupulous elements that were administering operations at Gimboki South Housing Scheme.
He went further to implore on the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing to engage UDCORP as the project manager of Federation Housing Scheme in Dangamvura as well.
Said Cllr Nhamarare: “There is a situation closer to Gimboki South where service delivery is yet to be accomplished and that is in Federation.
“We as the City of Mutare genuinely request Government to come and help us like what they have done in the Gimboki South matter.”
