CHINESE gold miner, Ming Chang Sino Africa Mining Investments (Pvt) Ltd on Saturday extended their programme to provide school fees to under privileged students at the primary school at the mine in Shamva.
This is part of the company’s growing community social responsibility across the country. The school was built by Ming Chang and transferred to the government in 2016.
The school has an enrolment of 510 students.
Speaking at a handover ceremony in Shamva on Saturday, Ming Chang head of human resources, Wang Luo Tao, said:
“I know these students have dreams and they have a bright future. We are glad to be a part of their journey and assist in the best way possible.
“Our company is very concerned about the growth of students, we love our land and community and we will continue helping students realise their dreams and conquer the world.”
Ming Chang Primary School student development committee chairperson, Joice Ngandu, said the company’s assistance has improved learning conditions at the school.
Its pass rate improved to 25 percent last year from 19 percent the previous year.
“We have 19 teachers but only two have accommodation here. We also need water at the school and a transformer in order to get connected to the national power grid.
“We don’t have adequate furniture for both staff and children.”
Authorities said plans were underway to drill a borehole and procure water tanks for the school.
They were also consulting Zesa to connect the school to the national grid.
