A JUVENILE from Penhalonga will rue the day she stole a cellphone from her neighbour after she was slapped with 350 hours of community service for the offence by a Mutare court.
Constance Maringanise (19) of Tsvingwe appeared before magistrate, Mrs Perseverance Makala facing theft charges as defined in Section 113 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
She pleaded guilty to stealing Mrs Getrude Tsikira’s mobile phone handset.
Mrs Sharon Chibvongodze prosecuted.
It was the State’s case that on December 6, the complaint left her phone charging on a solar system outside the house when the accused arrived selling various wares.
“As she was leaving Tsikira’s place, Maringanise stole the smart phone. Two days later the complaint met the accused and confronted her. She admitted stealing the phone,” said Mrs Chibvongodze.
A police report was made leading to Maringanise’s arrest.
The value of the smart phone was $15 600 and nothing was recovered.
