Government further argues that the Global Fund would continue to fund other laboratory requirements.
According to an e-mail from the Global Fund dated October 10, addressed to Ministry of Health and Child Welfare officials, the UN body will now re-direct its resources to other areas.
“It is not necessary for the Global Fund to use the savings the principal recipient had identified in the Round 8 HIV Phase 2 grant to support the ministry with developing a laboratory commodities supply chain management system, but instead prioritise the use of the identified savings to support strengthening of the storage and distribution capacity beyond the Natpharm,” wrote Mr Perry Mwangala from the GF’s grant management division.
PEPFAR, Mr Mwangala said, would now assist laboratory services with procurement of laboratory commodities and development of a laboratory commodities supply chain management system, among other laboratory services.
The new arrangement, according to Government officials, would work to the disadvantage of laboratory services in Zimbabwe.
