THE University of Zimbabwe has provided temporary accommodation to some residents displaced by a fire that destroyed parts of Jels Court Flats in Avondale on Tuesday.

Ward 17 Councillor Happymore Gotora confirmed the development in an interview and commended the university for assisting families left homeless by the blaze.

He also appealed to individuals, organisations and the wider community to support the affected residents with donations as they begin rebuilding their lives.

“When people go through such a situation, they lose almost everything, including clothing, food and other household property,” said Cllr Gotora.

“We therefore appeal to well-wishers to come on board and assist in whatever way they can.”

The fire, which broke out on Tuesday, left several residents homeless and destroyed property, prompting an emergency response from authorities and the community.
