Vicious attack over ‘stolen gold’ lands man in prison

A 19-YEAR-OLD from Battlefields, Kadoma, was sentenced to 14 months in prison, for assaulting a 31-year-old man that he accused of stealing his gold ore.

On 8 October 2024, at approximately 7:30 pm, Regai Zande crossed paths with the unnamed complainant on his way home.

Zande claimed the complainant had stolen his gold ore previously.

The complainant vehemently denied these accusations, but the situation quickly escalated into a heated misunderstanding.

Zande picked up an unknown object and struck the complainant once on the head, inflicting a severe cut leading to his arrest.

In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “Regai Zande (19) from Battlefields, Kadoma appeared before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges.
“On the 8th of October 2024 at around 1930 hours, the complainant (31) was on his way home when he met the accused person. The accused person started accusing the complainant of stealing his gold ore some time back. The complainant denied the allegations and this resulted in a misunderstanding. The accused person then picked an unknown object and struck the complainant once on the head. The complainant sustained a cut on the head.”

“The accused person was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment of which 4 months were suspended for 5 years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that he performs 354 hours of community service.”
