Victoria Falls man (50) jailed for sexual exploitation of tenant’s daughter (16)

A 50-year-old man from Chinotimba suburb in Victoria Falls has been jailed for two years after being found guilty of having extramarital sexual intercourse with his tenant’s 16-year-old daughter.

Gilbert Sibanda’s illicit relationship was uncovered by his wife, who discovered incriminating messages on his mobile phone, exchanged with the juvenile who is the complainant (name withheld).

Sibanda appeared before Victoria Falls Magistrate Ms Linda Dzvene.

Representing the state, Ms Audrey Mukanganya told the court that the 16-year-old complainant resides at the same house as Sibanda.
“During the month of June 2025 Sibanda proposed love to the complainant and she accepted. On a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the month of June 2025, Sibanda asked the complainant to meet him near the Roman Catholic Church in Chinotimba and she agreed. Sibanda then proceeded with the complainant to a house in Chinotimba, Victoria Falls.
“Whilst there, Sibanda asked to have sexual intercourse with the complainant and she agreed. Sibanda had sexual intercourse once with the complainant with her consent,” said Ms Mukanganya.

The court heard that Sibanda proceeded to have sexual intercourse again with the complainant once during the month of July 2025 at a house in Chinotimba, Victoria Falls.
“The matter came to light on 28 July 2025 when messages between Sibanda and the complainant were discovered by Sibanda’s wife. The complainant then revealed the ordeal to her aunt. The matter was then reported to the police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.

The teen told the court that she was in a relationship with Sibanda.
