Zimbabwe is fast cementing its place as a regional hub for religious tourism, with the sector contributing significantly to both the nation’s spiritual life and its economy.

This comes as the country will once again take centre stage when the Jehovah’s Witnesses host their 2025 Special Convention from September 5 to 7 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

The event is expected to attract global delegates and reaffirm Zimbabwe’s growing capacity to host world-class religious gatherings.

“Religious Tourism is fast becoming one of Zimbabwe’s strongest tourism clusters, drawing thousands of Religious Tourists who come for spiritual enrichment as well as to experience the country’s rich culture, heritage and hospitality,” the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) said.

“We are proud to welcome back the Jehovah’s Witnesses for their 2025 Special Convention scheduled from 5 to 7 September at the National Sports Stadium in Harare — a shining example of global delegates gathering while showcasing Zimbabwe’s capacity to host world-class religious events,” the authority added.

ZTA further noted that from the moment visitors arrive, they are immersed in the country’s signature warmth. “A warm Meet and Greet at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport set the tone, reflecting the nation’s signature hospitality and welcoming spirit.”

Beyond spiritual enrichment, religious tourism is becoming a powerful economic driver. “Events of this nature go beyond uplifting faith — they ignite economic activity in hotels at full capacity, restaurants and transport and beautifully showcase the warmth of Zimbabwe,” ZTA observed.

Such conventions provide a major boost for local businesses, filling up hotels and lodges, stimulating restaurant trade, and increasing demand for taxi services and intercity transport.

For Zimbabwe, the ripple effects underline the potential of religious gatherings to anchor a sustainable tourism stream that blends faith, culture and commerce.
