Victory belongs to the Lord

“Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s” — (2 Chronicles 20:15).

As we open the Word of God today, we find ourselves in the story of King Jehoshaphat, a king of Judah faced with a seemingly impossible situation.

He received news that a vast army, an alliance of Moabites, Ammonites, and other nations was advancing against his kingdom.

The numbers were overwhelming, the threat imminent, and anyone could have been paralysed by fear. But Jehoshaphat did not react like a man who relied solely on human strength.

He turned first to God. He called the people to gather, to pray, and to fast. He acknowledged their helplessness and their complete dependence on God.

And it was in that moment, in the midst of their fear and uncertainty, that God spoke through Jahaziel: “Do not be afraid… the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

Notice what God said: He did not instruct them to fight harder, to strategise longer, or to muster larger armies.

He told them that the outcome was His responsibility. How often do we forget this truth in our own lives? How often do we try to carry battles that God has already promised to fight?

Life today is full of challenges; unexpected medical news, difficult work situations, financial stress, broken relationships, and even spiritual opposition.

The enemy often appears overwhelming, and the temptation is to panic, to rely on our own resources, or to attempt to control what only God can change.

Yet here, in 2 Chronicles, God’s message is timeless: your battle is not yours; it belongs to Me.

Jehoshaphat’s example teaches us something about faith. He could have hidden in fear, gathered weapons, or sought human alliances. Instead, he prayed.

He worshiped. He acknowledged God’s sovereignty. And then he obeyed.

The next morning, he led the people out, not to fight, but to sing praises.

Imagine that the people of Judah marching toward their enemies with worship on their lips instead of swords in their hands. And what happened? God acted.

The enemy turned against each other. Victory came without a single hand striking a blow. This is the power of God when we place our trust fully in Him: battles are won in heaven before they are won on earth.

Let me share an example. There was a young woman, Tabeth, who faced a seemingly impossible financial crisis.

Her small business was failing, debts were mounting, and she feared losing everything.

But instead of panicking, she prayed and asked God for guidance.

She continued to work diligently but surrendered the outcome to God. Within weeks, an unexpected opportunity arose — an investor who believed in her vision stepped in, transforming her business and giving her the breakthrough she could never have achieved on her own. Tabeth’s victory did not come from her own power, but from God fighting her battle. Like Jehoshaphat, she trusted, worshiped, and obeyed God, and God intervened.

This year, January 2026, is a season for us to claim that same truth. Whatever battles you face be it personal, professional, spiritual, or relational — God is ready to fight for you.

You do not need to rely solely on your own understanding, your own skills, or your own strength. Stand still, pray, worship, and obey.

Let God move in ways that you cannot predict. Let Him confound the enemy, open doors, and bring victories that leave others amazed.

As you reflect on this, ask yourself: where have I been trying to fight battles on my own? Where have I allowed fear or doubt to take the place of faith?

God’s Word challenges us to step back from the chaos and trust His sovereignty. Stand still, not as passive bystanders, but as confident children of God, knowing that the Lord fights for you.

Let us commit ourselves to this truth in prayer and declaration:

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are our mighty warrior, our protector, and our deliverer.

We surrender every battle we face in 2026 into Your hands. We declare that every struggle in our lives; health, finances, relationships, career, and spirit is not ours to fight but Yours.

We speak peace over fear, courage over anxiety, and victory over impossibility. Every obstacle and opposition is confused and defeated by Your mighty hand.

Lord, as we move through this year, may our hearts remain steadfast, our eyes fixed on You, and our lives a testimony of Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As you read this message today remember this: when God fights your battles, victory is not a question; it is a certainty.

Your job is to trust, to obey, and to worship while God works. Stand boldly, walk forward in faith, and watch God turn your challenges into testimonies, your trials into triumphs, and your fears into miracles.

This year, let every battle be an opportunity to demonstrate God’s glory, because the battle is not yours — it is His.

So step into 2026 confident, knowing that God fights for you. Stand still, sing, pray, obey, and watch the impossible become possible. Victory belongs to the Lord, and if God is for you, who can be against you?

Let that truth carry you through this year, and let your life be a living witness of God’s mighty power.
