ANOTHER big crocodile was killed by villagers in Mazonwe River in Burma Valley on Sunday after it attacked a woman.The three-metre long reptile was ambushed and struck by an axe after villagers heard calls for help by the woman who escaped death by a whisker.
This becomes the second crocodile to be killed in Mazonwe River after another man-eating crocodile was killed in March this year.
The marauding crocodiles are suspected to have attacked and killed 10 people who were reported missing in the area since mid-last year.
Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority officials were only called to collect the dead crocodile. Mazonwe River is now infested with crocodiles putting villagers’ lives in danger.
The reptile was identified as a Nile (African) crocodile, part of the crocodylus niloticus species.
Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority officer, Mr Dominic Mubvanyika, said unlike the last crocodile, the recently killed one was not marked which showed that the crocodiles were breeding.
