Vice President Dr Kembo Mohadi has toured the Disused Radioactive Sources Management Facility in Hatcliffe, which is set to become one of its kind in Southern Africa upon completion.

The facility is designed to ensure that radiation waste and disused sources are stored in a controlled environment, in line with national safety requirements.

Construction of the facility began in 2018, with the primary purpose of providing a secure storage centre for radiation waste or disused radiation sources.

The project represents a major step in strengthening the safe management of radioactive materials.

During the visit, Vice President Mohadi was briefed on the progress made since the commencement of work.

He, however, bemoaned the slow pace at which progress is being made towards completion.

He pledged to take it upon himself to ensure that the pace increases.

The facility is being constructed in phases, with the first phase already complete.
