Isaiah 41: 10; “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Not so long ago, I wrote about fear and how debilitating the emotion can become once it takes centre stage in your life. A new dimension to fear was revealed to me today and as I thought about it, I realised that our approach to fear is probably the biggest impediment to its demise in our lives.
Often times, people are scared of either things that are to come or things that have been said that are likely to come true. The thought of the unknown future and what it may hold can grip you to a point where you become dysfunctional.
What do you do when you get to that point? The norm is to buckle in and let the fear overcome you until it stops you from functioning properly. When you imagine the likely future you literally become sick, you freeze and you lose focus on the present.
The question one must ask when confronted with situations like this is “yes this may happen, but then what?” When things go wrong in life so many things are lost or altered in the process; opportunities, potential income, influence, positions of power and even friends. When all that is happening all these things seem very important and you feel like you have lost everything.
What many people do not realise is that sometimes to lose is to gain, although during the time it is difficult to see beyond your loss, the pain is magnified. However, the most important thing one can lose is their life. If you are still alive and breathing it means you still have the opportunity, with His grace, to not only rebuild your life, but to do extraordinary things.
We often mistake the things that occur in the present as the sum total of our lives, yet none of us can successfully predict what will or can occur in the next hour. The point of release and revelation comes from knowing that the minute you stop fearing the possible future you have overcome this senseless emotion that can draw life from you.
For as long as you can breathe you have ability. Ability is a gift from the Lord that you can either fully explore or merely sit on and let the fear of the unknown control you and hold you back from exploring your full potential. May the Lord unlock the knowledge of our understanding of this enemy called fear and may it not hold us back from our destiny. Be blessed.
