AFRO-house musician and producer Warren Deep is set to take his career to new heights as he prepares to release his debut album later this month.
Born Mthokozisi Funwayo, the artiste will drop the project titled The Journey on February 20 under UK-based record label WeAreiDyll Records.
The album features a list of collaborations, including Another Life featuring Moses, The Unknown featuring Cilongo and Kustere, Smela featuring Swizzy Anderson, Find You, Symbolic featuring Böyd, Aura featuring Afro Wav, Taken Away featuring Danny Dee and Arst Lebo, The Oracle featuring Takue SBT, Amathonga featuring Quireboi and Euphoria featuring Apollo Soule and Giorgio Basse.
Through the project, Warren Deep positions himself as one of the emerging forces in electronic Afro-house music, blending rhythmic tribal elements with contemporary electronic sounds.
His journey into music production began in 2013 after being introduced to the craft by a friend, Stone Moyo. Raised in a home influenced by diverse musical tastes, Warren Deep initially experimented with electro-house before gravitating towards Afro and tribal house — genres that now define his signature sound.
He describes his style as “abstract electronic Afro-house music”, reflecting his desire to push creative boundaries while staying connected to his roots.
“My debut album, The Journey, is a reflection of my growth as both an individual and an artiste. It represents my relentless pursuit of development and my passion to create a distinctive sound,” said Warren Deep.
“Over the past eight years, I’ve embraced change and transformation, and those experiences have shaped my creativity and musical identity.”
The 10-track offering also highlights his international reach, featuring collaborations with artistes from Zimbabwe, Germany, Poland, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Italy.
“Working with artistes such as Swizzy Anderson, Apollo Soule, Giorgio Basse, Böyd, Moses, Afro Wav, Takue SBT and Quireboi helped me blend different sounds into one cohesive body of work,” he said. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
