The group visited Tembwe in Tete province on Tuesday and yesterday they were in Nyadzonia before heading for Chimoio where thousands of Zimbabweans perished at the hands of the Smith regime.
The pilgrimage is being led by one of the surviving spirit mediums of the liberation struggle, Sekuru Solomon Mujuru, bearing the spirit of Neworeka that played a significant role in guiding the liberation struggle.
Veteran musician, Cde Chinx Chingaira and former war veterans leader, Cde Patrick Nyaruwata are part of the delegation.
War veterans chairperson for Harare province, Cde Charles Mpofu said the visit was unique in that since independence, there has not been a deliberate effort to bring those who lie outside the borders of Zimbabwe.
The delegation, with the assistance of the spirit mediums, is conducting rituals at the shrines in the presence of traditional and government officials from Mozambique.
The ex-combatants are expected to visit Zambia and Tanzania and conduct the same ritual.
Sekuru Shambira said the “bringing back of the liberation fighters’ spirits is a completion of a process of restoring dignity to the people of Zimbabwe”.
