BULAWAYO deputy mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu has commended President Mnangagwa for demonstrating his commitment to inclusive development through the implementation of the Presidential Borehole Scheme, saying the initiative reflects the President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Cowdray Park Presidential Borehole Scheme by Presidential Adviser Dr Paul Tungwarara on Saturday, Clr Ndlovu said the development was evidence that Government was prioritising the welfare of citizens regardless of political affiliation.
He said politics should be centred on improving people’s lives rather than the pursuit of power, adding that leaders should compete through ideas and development programmes that benefit communities.
“We are grateful to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, for bringing development to the country and for ensuring that all citizens remain united, irrespective of political affiliation.
Politics should be about the contestation of ideas. Political parties should present programmes and initiatives that improve the lives of citizens. It should not be about power for its own sake, but about serving the people,” said Cllr Ndlovu.
He said the commissioning of the borehole scheme in Cowdray Park was a practical demonstration of President Mnangagwa’s vision of inclusive national development.
He thanked the President for dispatching his adviser, Dr Tungwarara, to officiate at the event and witness the impact of the programme on local communities.
“All these initiatives come in handy and speak directly to the President’s guiding philosophy that no one and no place should be left behind,” he said.
“We ask Dr Tungwarara to convey our message to the President on behalf of the people of Bulawayo. We are deeply grateful for the care and attention that he continues to show our city and its residents.”
The Presidential Borehole Scheme, launched by the Second Republic to improve access to clean water and support food security, has seen the installation of boreholes and community nutrition gardens across the country.
The Cowdray Park project comprises a borehole, two 5 000-litre water storage tanks and a one-hectare fenced nutrition garden that will benefit residents through improved access to water for domestic use and agricultural production.
Clr Ndlovu said the project was tangible proof that the President’s vision was being translated into practical interventions that directly improve people’s lives.
“The commissioning of this Presidential Borehole Scheme is clear testimony to that commitment. We thank the President and look forward to continued development for the people of Bulawayo and Zimbabwe as a whole,” said Cllr Ndlovu.
