Water restored to most dry suburbs

Zvobgo yesterday confirmed that water supplies to the affected areas was restored.
“The problem was rectified last night and we have managed to restore water in most suburbs except for certain few areas.
“We were losing about 12 000 cubic metres of water daily and that amount of water can feed areas such as Mabvuku, Tafara and Ruwa,” he said.
Eng Zvobgo said the burst had affected one of their big chambers, adding that if they had failed to rectify the problem, Harare would have gone for six months without adequate water supplies.
The water cuts had also affected the industrial areas, Harare Hospital and the city centre.
The leak was on the 1 300mm pipeline that feeds water from the treatment plant to Warren Control pumping mains in Warren Park.
Acute water shortages in Harare in the past had led to the outbreak of cholera and typhoid. The two diseases had resulted in the death of people with hospitals failing to contain the outbreaks.
