UNSTOPPABLE, committed and ruthless!
This best describes Watermark High School’s form when they took part in this year’s Marist Champions of Champions (MCC) soccer tournament as they lifted the trophy in style after defeating the hosts 4-0.
The Rusape-based private school pocketed $80 and a floating trophy for their sterling efforts.
Seven schools took part in the annual tournament and played in a round-robin format to set a pulsating final between the hosts and Watermark.
The stalemate last until just after 10 minutes when the hosts failed to stop a 30-meter drive free kick to silence a small, but vibrant group that was rooting for Marist.
From that moment, Watermark erupted into a goal scoring spree to secure the tournament victory before a bumper crowd of nearly 2 000 spectators.
Watermark coach, Kelvin Nyahwai, was elated by the win.
“This will build morale in the team to challenge for more honours. We offer professional training techniques to these boys and the results are just wonderful,” he said.
Marist sports organiser, Makombe, said they were appealing to the corporate world for sponsorship of the annual tournament.
“We will appreciate if there could be some interested sponsors. The school has been funding it since its inception in early 2000, but we feel it needs some sponsorship so that it keeps on attracting soccer powerhouses like Churchill, Mt Pleasant and Lord Malvern like it used to do.”
The other schools that participated include Nyatate, St Mary’s Magdalene, Emmanuel, Regina, Nyangani.
