ALICK Macheso’s publicist says the sungura superstar is SORRY for the violent attack on Zimpapers reporter, Richard Muponde, by his bouncer Lloyd Gweshe.
However, Makahamadze said it was unfortunate Macheso could not have done anything to stop the violent attack as it did not happen at his shows.
“We have heard about the issue and it’s sad how it happened.
“As a group, we condemn violence but, on this occasion, we were nowhere near this brawl.
“The brawl happened at a bar and, to be honest, there was nothing we could have done about it.
“If it had happened during our show, surely, we could have intervened and acted swiftly, but in this case it would be unfair to blame our leadership or Baba Sharo because people were involved in a bar brawl over an issue they know better,” said Makahamadze.
He wished Muponde a speedy recovery and said Gweshe covered the reporter’s medical expenses.
“Gweshe has since paid him US$500 to cover his medical expenses.
“I don’t even know what they agreed on but we can assure you that Lloyd is cooperating in all this fracas.
“It’s sad this brawl ended this way when we expected them to solve their issues amicably if they had any beef.”
Gweshe, who was reported to have knocked out three of Muponde’s teeth and left his face deformed with some lacerations, was not reachable for comment.
The matter is said to have been reported at Marimba Police Station.
Muponde claimed he did not provoke Gweshe.
“I am yet to come to terms with this attack and the motive behind it.
“For your information, we stay in the same area, and I don’t even know how I wronged him.
“If I had an issue with him, we should have discussed it man-to-man and not resorted to violence. He is a trained karate player, and I am just a peace-loving journalist.”
Muponde, who admitted having received US$500 from Macheso’s camp for treatment, insists he still wants justice to prevail.
“I didn’t want to create a fuss about this whole issue, but I am in search of justice. For your information, I got the money from Macheso’s camp for treatment and they knew the impact their employee had caused.
“This will not stop me from pursuing justice and I still insist that I am in the dark over why I was attacked.”
Muponde, who is a political reporter, insisted that he is now living in fear.
“To be honest, I don’t know his next move since the guy is untouchable and violent.
“I believe that in the fullness of time justice will be served and I will be back at work doing my job peacefully.”
He added:“I had just dropped off from a kombi and decided to go to the nearby shops to buy some drinks.
“As I was walking down the stairs, I met Lloyd, who started attacking me unprovoked.
“I started bleeding from the mouth, lost my teeth and became unconscious. Up to now, I don’t know what I did to anger him, as I mentioned earlier.
“Surely, this level of bullying is totally unacceptable, and I won’t rest.”
