CORRECTIONAL services outfit Wha Wha showed their intentions of getting promoted into the topflight league after edging newcomers Chomumvuri Pirates 1-0 in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter.Nicholas Chuma settled matters for the hosts when he fired from close range in the 42nd minute when he latched on to a Kenneth Bhuka cross.
The win powered the Gweru-based side to the summit of the table standings with 10 points from four matches.
Luke Petros-Jukulile, the Wha Wha coach said despite the bright start to the season his side is still trying to collect points to avoid relegation.
“At the moment I am still stabilising the side and collecting points so that we are safe from relegation. We will only begin to talk about the championship after eight games because that is when the league would have taken shape,” he said.
In other matches, Gweru City clobbered Silo United 3-1 to move to third position on the log standings.
A brace by Joseph “Deco” Matambo and a Brian Sarupinda strike was all “Chiwororo” needed to collect maximum points.
Earlier, the Gweru side had three points thrown away following the expulsion of Town United from the league. They were subsequently replaced by Zvishavane Stars.
A six-goal thriller was in the offing at Mandava Stadium as Zvishavane Stars announced their arrival with a three all draw against Gaths Mine.
The top-of-the table clash pitting army side Tongogara against former Premiership side Chrome Stars lived up to its billing but failed to find a winner as the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
The draw saw Stars relinquish top spot sliding to second position while the army side is now on fourth position down from second place.
