A LOCAL businessman was dragged to court by his wife who demanded $342000 maintenance.
Nyasha Chamisa said she needed the money for the upkeep of their six-month-old child, as well as spousal allowances.
She also accused her husband, Blessing Togarepi, of making empty promises.
“I am currently going to school, which makes it difficult for me to support the child.
“He fooled me into marriage, claiming that he would take care of my needs during the subsistence of our marriage,” she said.
“A few months into our marriage, he indicated that he wanted to divorce.
“I pay US$250 rent per month. My husband owns a mining company so he can afford to pay that amount.
“When we stayed together, he took home at least US$4 000. He should also take care of me because he affected my studies when he married me,” she added.
Togarepi, who was legally represented, offered $20000 per month.
“Togarepi can only pay $20 000 per month considering that his child is only six months.
“Children under six months are exclusively breast fed, $20 000 is enough,” said Togarepi’s lawyer.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira postponed the matter to August 26.
