A HARARE man attacked his wife with a brick, and injured her leg, after she returned home from church around 2am.

Sheila Matombo approached the Harare Civil Court, seeking a protection order against her husband, Tonderai Chibaya.

She accused Tonderai of physical and verbal abuse.

“He once assaulted me to the extent that I couldn’t walk.

“Last week, my husband hit me with a brick and caused a leg injury.

“I had to move out of our house because of the abuse,” Sheila said.

Tonderai denied the accusations and, instead, blamed Sheila’s church for brewing problems in their marriage.

“Whenever Sheila attends a church service, she comes home around 2am.

“We exchanged unpleasant words the last time I tried to reprimand her about her church,” said Tonderai.

Magistrate Rutendo Machingure granted Sheila the protection order.
