REIGNING Mr Zimbabwe Gedion “Gidza” Teguru says his defence of the title could be affected by a number of issues which have blighted his preparations.
He will try to defend his title at this weekend’s Zimbabwe Nationals Bodybuilding contest at the 7 Arts Theatre in the capital.
Teguru, who won three titles last year, says he has been having some challenges.
“Things are a bit tied up. As for preparations, l am trying but there is not enough money to buy my supplements and for dieting.
“I will be just like any ordinary contestant who does gym and I will give it my best shot.
“It will be a casual contest for me as there is a lot of competition out there,” said Teguru.
The hulk is under the mentorship of fitness coach Lowson Muhambi.
“I was last on the stage back in June when I did the Dubai Pro Show where l placed seven out of 26 and that will give me confidence ahead of the Zimbabwe Nationals.
“To win three competitions in a row is not easy, especially the following year when you need to defend all those titles.
“I am a hard worker, of course, who trains so hard but if there is no financial backing it’s impossible to defend as bodybuilding is a very expensive sport.
“If I can manage to get some sponsors to come on board in time, l will definitely defend my titles,” said Teguru.
Teguru has been the leading light in local bodybuilding of late.
He wants to walk the same path which former champions Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga, Nunurai Masosonere, Champion Chiendamwaro, Givemore Marume, among others, walked on their way to immortality.
The premier bodybuilding event will see athletes competing in different categories ranging from junior men bodybuilding, senior men bodybuilding, wheelchair men bodybuilding, women bikini modelling and veterans bodybuilding, among other categories.
