TELONE coach Herbert Maruwa says he is happy they are playing some of the strongest sides in the Castle Lager Premiership during the early part of the season.
The Gweru side started their campaign with a date against Dynamos, losing 1-2 at Ascot in a match which was affected by the poor state of the water-logged pitch.
They then held MWOS to a 1-1 draw at Ngoni where they conceded a late penalty.
Now, they face Simba Bhora today.
After this game, TelOne head to Zvishavane for a Midlands derby showdown against FC Platinum before returning home to face defending champions Scottland.
“Playing the strong sides early helps us,” he said.
“It forces the players to grow quickly and show their character.
“We have to compete and get results. This run will tell us a lot about where we are going this season.”
TelOne have found the net in both matches but have paid for lapses at the back.
They have conceded three goals in two games, including a late penalty against MWOS that cost them victory.
Maruwa wants more discipline in defence.
“Our attack is encouraging, the goals are coming,” he said.
“But we need to be solid at the back. If we don’t tighten up, it will be difficult to win matches.”
Simba Bhora present a different test, a side that punishes mistakes and controls matches when given space.
For TelOne, the early rounds have already turned into a demanding stretch, and the response against the former champions will say a lot about where they stand.
