A CHIMANIMANI woman was recently arrested on infanticide charges after she gave birth to a live baby boy and allegedly killed him with an unknown object. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the incident which happened recently at Satiya Village under Chief Muusha.

Insp Chishiri said Precious Tarambiwa (24), who stayed on her own, was alone at home when she gave birth to a baby boy.
“Tarambiwa gave birth to a live baby but proceeded to kill the baby with an object that the police failed to establish. She then took the baby’s body and buried it in a cave in a nearby bush.

“The matter only came to light after some villagers gave police a tip-off that Tarambiwa had killed her child.
“When she was confronted by the police, she admitted to have committed the crime and led them to where she had buried the child,” said Insp Chishiri.

The baby’s body was retrieved in an advanced state of decomposition.
Precious was expected to appear in court this week.
