IN a bizarre incident that left AFM congregants at Birchenough Bridge assembly dumbfounded, a Science teacher at Gunura Secondary School in Buhera, Tendai Mundereza Musapatika, collapsed during a church service and died on the way to the hospital.

Witnesses said the incident shocked everyone.

‘’She came to church for the Sunday service and everything appeared normal. In the middle of the service she collapsed and there was commotion as people rushed to assist her,’’ a congregant who requested anonymity said.

Musapatika had no medical history of a non-communicable disease such as hypertension, diabetes or asthma.

‘’She was rushed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital, but it was a bit too late as she died on arrival.

“Indeed it was a sad beginning to the year,’’ added a congregant.

Musapatika, whose husband is a teacher at Devuli Primary School left behind four children, three boys and a girl. She was buried at Gudyanga Village on Tuesday.

A teacher at Devuli Primary School, Mr Elder Ngorima, expressed shock at Musapatika’s death.

‘’In this time of tragedy, it is too easy to point fingers, but what is important is to pray to God to give us extraordinary strength in the face of adversity.

“Mrs Tendai Musapatika fought a good fight right up to the end.

“She collapsed while attending a church service to show how dedicated to God she was,’’ said Mr Ngorima in his eulogy.

Maxwell Chaya also added his sympathy and said: ‘’I know the couple and its family.

“It was a God-fearing family and I hope the incident will bring them closer rather than tear them apart in anguish. May her soul rest in eternal peace,’’ he said.
