A telephone conversation with a stranger led a Buhera woman to commit suicide last week.

Chipinge District police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera confirmed the death of Ndanatsei Mutero of Mwacheta Village under Chief Chamisa’s area in Buhera.

Asst Insp Kadzuraumera said: “On December 16, Mutero received a phone call while at her homestead and deleted the record soon after answering the call.

“A few minutes later she got into her bedroom and took an unidentified liquid. She went to the toilet where she poured the poison into the water glass and drank it.

“After the act, she disposed the water glass and poison container into the toilet. She bade farewell to her daughter before collapsing. She died on the spot.

“Mutero’s daughter ran to alert their neighbours,” said Asst Insp Kadzuraumera.

A report was made at Birchenough Bridge Police Station where police attended the scene and the remaining poison was recovered.

Mutero’s body was conveyed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
