A St Peter’s woman was flogged by fellow residents after she dumped her new born baby at St Peter’s Primary School toilets.

It is understood that Thando Mnkandla’s crime came to light after a pupil discovered the baby in one of the toilets wrapped in clothes.

When word about the dumped baby spread, a resident who had seen Mnkandla very early in the morning going to the school clad in blood stained clothes and a satchel on her back alerted other residents that she suspected Mnkandla had dumped her baby.

‘‘I was frightened to see residents thronging my compound demanding that Mnkandla should be punished for dumping a baby. They were very angry and uttering all sorts of insults. When she came out of the house they flogged her. I didn’t know what to do, I was so shocked and I’m still shocked that she killed a baby,” said Mnkandla’s landlord who only identified herself as MaMoyo.

B-Metro managed to get hold of Mnkandla who continuously shivered and wept as she narrated her chilling ordeal.

“I was home alone when I gave birth to the baby. After giving birth I thought it was dead so I decided to take the baby to the nearby school and I dumped it in the toilet,” she said.

Her grandmother, Mavis Mandi said this incident humiliates her.

“She left me long back when she got pregnant with her first child. We do not even communicate and I was so embarrassed to hear that she dumped a baby,” she said.

Mnkandla has since been arrested.
