A man from Chief Nyajena’s area in Masvingo has been convicted and sentenced to serve five years in jail after he emerged from the bush, removed his clothes, and attempted to rape a woman.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the 20-year-old man appeared before a Masvingo regional magistrate and pleaded guilty to the charge.
The magistrate sentenced him to 10 years in jail, but suspended five years on condition of good behaviour.
He will effectively serve five years in jail.
The NPA said that on 3 November, 2024, shortly after midday, the offender met the woman as she was heading to Nyamande Business Centre.
He emerged from a bushy area, grabbed her by the hand, and begged her to have sex with him.
The woman refused, but he pushed her to the ground. However, the victim summoned courage and grabbed his manhood, squeezing and twisting it.
The court heard that the woman managed to escape, leaving him groaning in agony.
She then ran to the police station and reported the incident, leading to the man’s arrest.
