AN ATTEMPT to escape an unhappy marriage by asking for a divorce cost a Chipinge woman her life when she was stabbed with a spear by her husband.
Phillip Ndachengedzwa (32) of Ndiyadzo Village, Chipinge, allegedly murdered his wife, Nomalami Magochi (38), following a protracted domestic dispute. It is alleged that on October 25, 2014, at Munashe Store, Ndachengedzwa had a misunderstanding with his wife.
Magochi allegedly told her husband that she was no longer interested in the marriage, a move that did not go down well with Ndachengedzwa.
Prosecuting, Mr Cuthbert Bhosha said the accused lost his temper and shut the door so that the deceased could not escape.
“You took a spear from underneath your bed and stabbed the deceased twice on the left hand, once on the forehead and also once on the stomach.
“Loveness Beta, a neighbour, was alerted by Magochi’s screams and found her lying on the ground bleeding from the stomach, but the accused was still in the house holding the spear. She sensed danger and ran away,” said Mr Bhosha.
Magochi was later taken to Ngorima Clinic and was referred to Mutare Provincial Hospital where she died.
The spear was recovered.
Presiding over the case, senior Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura remanded Ndachengedzwa in custody to November 10.
She advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
