POLICE in Chipinge are investigating a murder case in which the body of a woman with strangle marks was found dumped in a burnt bush recently.
Chipinge district police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera confirmed the incident which occurred last week on September 4 at Ndigadzo Village under Chief Mutema.
“The now deceased Eliza Marange was on her way home from Cooper Shopping Centre where she was selling firewood. Eliza was walking along a footpath in thickets close to Rusitu River.
“She was with her baby Tamari Tuto a girl aged eight months on her back. The body of Eliza was discovered dead a few metres off the footpath in a burnt bush at around 2pm by a passerby, Joseph Makova (54) of Dzingire Village. He saw the infant abandoned on the footpath with a wrapper. He was able to positively identify the body and then took the baby and handed it to the baby’s father Noah Tuto (32) who lives in the same village. Tuto then made a police report at Copper Base Station,” he said.
Police attended the scene and discovered some strangle marks, a torn skirt giving the impression that the dress was removed violently.
A big stone with blood stains was also found at the scene.
Police are also suspecting that she could have been raped before being killed.
