A BULAWAYO man is fighting for his life at Mpilo Central Hospital after his wife allegedly strangled him and stabbed him on the chest with an okapi knife, accusing him of cheating. Sinikiwe Moyo, 31, went on to assault Clever Jegede, 43, with a bottle on the head. Jegede reportedly lost consciousness after the gruesome attack.
Moyo allegedly lost her marbles when she arrived home after midnight and found her husband sleeping.
She flew off the handle when Jegede asked her where she was coming from at that time of the night.
Moyo allegedly accused her husband of having an extra marital affair and attacked him.
For the assault, Moyo appeared before Provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing a physical abuse charge.
She was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to February 18.
Prosecuting Mufaro Mageza told the court that on Sunday around 8PM, Jegede arrived at his home and found his wife Moyo not at home.
He retired to bed.
Moyo, Mageza said, eventually arrived home at midnight and Jegede was awakened by her banging on the window.
The prosecutor told the court Jegede went to open the door and his wife immediately started shouting at him accusing him of cheating on her.
The court heard how Moyo went berserk and allegedly strangled her husband with her bare hands, before assaulting him with the bottle on the head.
Moyo allegedly took a knife and stabbed Jegede on his chest and he sustained a deep cut on the right side of the chest.
Jegede allegedly broke free and fled to his core tenant’s room, where he asked the tenant to accompany him to the police station.
Mageza told the court Jegede fainted on the way to the station.
His friend revived him and assisted him to the station where he made a report.
The police, seeing the extent of his injuries, called an ambulance and Jegede was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was admitted.
Last month, a woman from Bulawayo’s Sizinda suburb appeared in court for stabbing her husband with a screwdriver three times on his chest and stomach after he assaulted her for delaying to open the door for him.
Allegations are that Malawi Nyoni, 43, went home drunk late at night and demanded that his wife Angela Nyoni, 35, open the door for him.
When she opened the door, Malawi allegedly punched and head butted her accusing her of delaying to open the door.
An angry Nyoni took a screwdriver and stabbed her husband.
