Woman suffers miscarriage after being beaten up by her husband

Gibson Mhaka

Sibusiso Ndlovu (39), from the Entumbane suburb who was heavily pregnant tragically suffered a miscarriage after being allegedly brutally assaulted by her husband, Clever Jirimwe (45).

The assault was reportedly motivated by Jirimwe’s anger over Ndlovu’s request to reprimand his nephew, who was living with them and had a history of insulting Ndlovu whenever he was drunk.

In a fit of anger, Jirimwe accused his wife of not respecting his family. He claimed that she was deliberately trying to alienate him from his relatives by criticizing their behaviour.

According to reports as relayed to B-Metro, the incident occurred on 14 October at around 11pm at Sankazi Mine in Esigodini.

Ndlovu had visited her husband there when a misunderstanding arose after she asked him to speak to his nephew, who frequently insulted her whenever he returned home drunk.

Jirimwe became enraged by his wife’s request and accused her of being a troublemaker who did not want his relatives in their home.

During the heated argument, Jirimwe struck his wife several times in the face and back with open hands.

Jirimwe then violently pushed his wife to the ground. Ndlovu, who was heavily pregnant, fell heavily and began bleeding. The severe trauma reportedly caused by the fall resulted in a miscarriage.

She also suffered a swollen face and a painful back. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Jirimwe.

For the heinous offence, he was brought before Esigodini magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube charged with physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 25 October.
