ZIMBABWE senior national women’s cricket team coach, Adam Chifo (pictured) sees the upcoming four One Day Internationals against Ireland as an opportunity to fine tune for the International Cricket Council Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in the country from the end of November.
Fresh from winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa in Botswana, the Lady Chevrons are gearing up to take on Ireland in four ODIs scheduled for 5, 7, 9 and 11 October at Harare Sports Club. It will be Zimbabwe’s first assignment in the international 50-over version since they were awarded ODI status in April this year.
“Good opportunity for us to prepare for the upcoming ODI qualifiers, also our first assignment since we got ODI status so we are really looking forward to the tour,’’ Chifo said.
No changes are anticipated in the Lady Chevrons’ squad from the team that was in Botswana. The players have been given time off and are expected to get into camp in Harare on Friday. More action is lined up for the Zimbabwean women before they head into battle in the World Cup Qualifier when they take on Bangladesh in three ODIs.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean all-rounder, Ryan Burl made a brilliant start for Kathmandu Kings XI in the opening match of the Nepal’s Everest Premier League when his team defeated Lalitpur Patriots by seven wickets yesterday.
Burl, who walked away with the Player of the Match award picked up two wickets for 20 runs in four overs as the Patriots scored 157/8 in 20 overs before he slammed 73 not out in 34 balls, an innings made up of three fours and seven sixes prior to lead his team to victory with 34 balls remaining.
