Workers attach council property

Council Workers’ Union, got an arbitral award last year compelling the town council to pay the salary arrears.
The attached vehicles include an earthmover, a tipper truck, a Mazda 626, a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan Hardbody.
Removal of the attached property from council premises is expected tomorrow. Arbitrator Mr F Chingono ruled that the workers should get their salaries.
Mr Rogers Matsikidze of Matsikidze and Mucheche successfully registered the award at the High Court.
Justice Bharat Patel confirmed the registration of the award.
“The arbitral award dated January 15, 2011 made by Honourable F Chingono is hereby registered as an order of this court.
“The respondent (Council) shall pay the costs of the suit,” ruled Justice Patel.
The notice of removal was served on a secretary at the town house in Rusape on Monday.
Council is supposed to pay additional fees in excess of US$20 000 for the inventory, notice of removal and 10 percent commission.
Among the claimants were 51 casual workers and 136 permanent staffers who should get their salary arrears for the period stretching from September 2009 to December 2009 including the 13th cheque.
