Zimbabwe was inundated with congratulatory messages from around the world as it marked its 46th Independence Day anniversary on Saturday.
Many nations, along with international, continental, and regional organisations, sent their sincere congratulations to Zimbabwe, expressing goodwill and warm wishes on the occasion.
Main celebrations to commemorate the momentous milestone were held in Maphisa.
In its message, the United Nations (UN) reiterated its commitment to working with Zimbabwe toward a brighter and more inclusive future.
“Happy 46th Independence Day, Zimbabwe. We join Zimbabweans in celebrating a legacy of resilience, determination and shared progress,” the world body said on its X handle.
“We honour the past, reflect on the present and reaffirm our collective commitment to building a brighter inclusive future for all.”
China reaffirmed its support for Zimbabwe, describing the two countries as genuine friends and trusted partners, and pledging to move together toward shared progress and a more hopeful future.
“Happy 46th Independence Day, Zimbabwe! Today we celebrate 46 years of sovereignty, courage, and the unyielding spirit of the great people of Zimbabwe,” said Beijing.
“China stands with Zimbabwe as a sincere friend and partner, walking hand in hand toward shared development and a brighter future.
The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe extends heartfelt wishes to the Government and people of Zimbabwe — may peace, progress and prosperity always be with you.”
The Russian Embassy in Zimbabwe congratulated the country, saying the mutually beneficial collaboration between Harare and Moscow was appreciated.
“April 18th is Independence Day in Zimbabwe! Russia and Zimbabwe are actively interacting on the international stage based on matched or close positions,” Russia said.
“We sincerely congratulate our African friends on their national holiday! We wish them well-being and prosperity.”
In its message, SADC said Zimbabwe’s achievements were worth celebrating.
“Today, 18 April 2026, the SADC family joins the Government and all Zimbabweans in commemorating the country’s 46th Independence Anniversary under the theme: ‘Unity and Development towards Vision 2030.’
The Republic of Zimbabwe, a Member State of SADC, gained its independence from Britain on 18 April 1980.
“A happy and memorable celebration as Zimbabwe celebrates her achievements, and recommit to building a united, prosperous nation,” the regional bloc said.
The United Kingdom Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Peter Vowles, wrote: “Happy Independence Day”, on his official X handle.
Palestine said that on Zimbabwe’s special day, it celebrated the existing strong cordial relations between the two countries.
“The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe extends its warmest congratulations to the Government and people of Zimbabwe on the historic occasion of their 46th Independence Anniversary.
“We celebrate the enduring bonds of friendship and solidarity between our nations,” Palestine said.
The United States extended its best wishes to Zimbabwe for peace and prosperity, saying it expects further strengthening of economic ties with Harare in the years ahead.
“Happy Independence Day, Zimbabwe. We wish the nation and the people of Zimbabwe peace and prosperity and look forward to strengthening our economic partnership in the years ahead,” the US Embassy in Zimbabwe wrote on its official X handle.
The European Union (EU) also congratulated Zimbabwe, saying: “Congratulations from us at @euinzim to all Zimbabweans for 46 years of Independence. #zimat46 #Independenceday.”
