HIGHLANDERS Football Club have announced that striker Mthabisi “Mabobo” Ncube has extended his stay at the club up to 2026.

Ncube put pen to paper on a new contract at the Bosso offices on Wednesday in the presence of the club’s treasurer, Busani Mthombeni and secretary Morgen “Gazza” Dube.

Here to stay! We are delighted to confirm that Mthabisi “Mabobo” Ncube has extended his contract with the club until 2026,’’ announced Highlanders.

Ncube was promoted into the Highlanders first team in 2020 after impressive displays for the club’s Under-17 team. In 2018/19, he scored 46 goals in the Zifa Bulawayo Juniors League.

The 19-year old was never given an opportunity to showcase his talent when Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu was the Highlanders coach.

Baltemar Brito’s arrival has however changed, which saw Ncube make his debut appearance against Harare City in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Barbourfields Stadium on 5 June. Bosso won that encounter 1-0 and Ncube was on the field for 62 minuets before he was replaced by Washington Navaya. In the match against Whawha at Ascot Stadium in Gweru, Ncube was brought in as a substitute for Adrian with 68 minutes played.

Ncube is one of the youngsters Brito has taken a liking for since his arrival with another teenager, 16-year old Prince Ndlovu promoted to the first team. Ndlovu, a left footed attacking midfielder made his debut appearance against Manica Diamonds at Barbourfields at the beginning of this month and almost scored with his first touch.

Meanwhile, Highlanders have parted ways with midfielder Joel “Josta” Ngodzo, with the separation by mutual consent.

“The club can confirm that it has parted ways with Joel “Josta” Ngodzo on mutual terms. We are grateful for the contributions he made towards the club during his stay at Bosso. We wish him well in his new endeavours,’’ read a statement from Highlanders on Wednesday.

The 33-year old Ngodzo had made a second return to his boyhood club having joined Highlanders last year as a free agent.
